The Puebla region is known as the birthplace of many Mexican fiestas, including the well-loved Cinco de Mayo. To celebrate Restaurante’s new Chicken Tinga kit, we’ve gone exploring through the Puebla region, to find their best-kept party secrets. Here’s what you need to know. Fast facts - Founded on April 16th 1531, the city of Puebla was originally known as ‘La Puebla de los Angeles’. - Puebla is Mexico’s fourth largest city, and there are 2.1 million residents. Puebla festivals Carnival of Huejotzingo Occurs in the Puebla region in the Huejotzingo municipality Festivities start in the morning of the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, and end in the evening of Shrove Tuesday. The carnival includes many re-enactments of battles and stories, as well as elaborate traditional costumes. Festival de Nopales Held in Tlaxcalancingo, Mexico from 28th – 30th May. Celebrates the harvest with a food fair that features nopal salads, stews, stuffed nopales and even nopal ice cream. These are supplemented with other regional specialities, grilled meats and a barbeque. These are just a few of the many festivals in Puebla.
