It doesn't matter if you have a green thumb or a French manicure, there's no reason why you can't grow herbs and vegetables in your very own backyard. It's easy to get started, and the reward of delicious fresh veggies is worth the work. Let’s get started…
1. Let the sun shine. Choose a spot for your veggie patch that gets plenty of sunshine.
2. Break up and turn the soil, then mix in your smelliest compost.
3. Decide which seedlings to plant based on how much space you have, and the time of year. Check the labels before you buy and you’ll be right.
4. Keep the seedlings moist and make sure you have time to plant them within the next three days.
5. Plant them in rows and remember to label them.
6. Water frequently, up to twice a day if it's hot. They’re thirsty little things.
7. Start planning the amazing meals you can create while you wait for them to grow!
Don't have space for a veggie garden outside? No problem. Why not create a window sill garden? Herbs like parsley, basil and mint grow wonderfully in pots and will make your kitchen smell like an authentic pizzeria.
