Cinco de Mayo celebrates the unlikely victory of the Mexican forces against the French army on May 5th 1862! It’s now a national holiday in Mexico and is celebrated all over however particularly in the Puebla region. So now that you have a very brief understanding of the day, we’ll introduce you to the things you should and shouldn’t be doing while celebrating Cinco de Mayo!
Do:
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Host a party, invite your friends and family around and make a night of it!
Don’t:
Forget about it. It’s a holiday that you can have fun with but it’s also commemorating an important part of Mexican history – a time when the underdogs prevailed!
Do:
Set up a taco bar for guests. Grab one of our Family Value Tortillas pack and get creative with the fillings – think grilled meats, guacamole, sour cream, variety of cheeses and anything else tasty you can get your hands on!
Don’t:
Buy a Mexican costume offline. Often these ‘typical’ Mexican accessories really aren't that typical in Mexico, so try to keep it authentic!
Do:
Drink the local drinks in moderation. It is a party after all!
Don’t:
Think piñatas are just for children – adults love them too! They’re a super fun activity for everyone to enjoy.
Do:
Decorate. Decorate. Decorate. Use the Mexican flag colours (green, white and red) to accessorise your house, tables and chairs! Remember streamers and balloons are a simple yet extremely colourful way to make this celebration fun.
